RECREATE Smyrna

The City of Smyrna, Georgia hired Perez Planning + Design, LLC (PP+D) to complete the City's Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Branded RECREATE Smyrna, the goal of the study was to give new life and freshness to the City through the City's parks and recreation system while also helping to address some of the difficult and complex challenges that the City faces. 

RECREATE Smyrna followed PP+D's proven approach to parks and recreation system planning. It consisted of an analysis of the City’s existing Context, Needs and Priorities Assessment, Long Range Vision, and Implementation Strategy. Each phase of the process built on the findings and conclusions from the previous phases. Through this process, PP+D identified five primary challenges that were impacting the City's continued growth - Building a greater variety of housing stock; Developing more local retail destinations and amenities - including more parks and recreation amenities; Adding alternatives to its transportation network; Investing in its education system, namely its middle and high schools; and Embracing a diverse population. Additionally, PP+D identified the communities top priority parks and recreation needs. 

RECREATE Smyrna proposed an implementable parks and recreation system vision for the City that created a decision-making framework to ensure a systematic approach to developing a balanced parks and recreation system that address communities needs and priorities as well as many of the challenges facing the City's continued growth.
