Extending from Hosea L. Williams Drive west to Montgomery Street, the Trolley Trail was one of the first trail segments built in the City of Atlanta by the PATH Foundation in 1996. Perez Planning + Design, LLC (PP+D) was hired by the PATH Foundation to complete a vision and feasibility study that explored extending the trail from Montgomery Street west to the Atlanta BeltLine.
PP+D worked with the PATH Foundation, Kaizen Collaborative, Inc., the City of Atlanta Chief Bicycle Officer, City of Atlanta Council Person Natalyn Archibong, and area residents to develop a vision for extension of the trail along 12 city blocks. Each city block presented a unique challenge related to utilities, single-family home egress and ingress, traffic mobility, and pedestrian and bicycle circulation that PP+D had to consider, while also addressing the desires of area residents, project construction budget, and the City of Atlanta's Chief Bicycle Officer's goal for the project. The vision and feasibility study was successfully completed with full support from area residents, the City of Atlanta Chief Bicycle Officer, the City of Atlanta Council Person Natalyn Archibong, and the PATH Foundation.
The project began design and engineering Fall of 2018 with construction scheduled for Fall 2019.
